I can't read my lock code. How do I read it?
Sometimes lock codes get worn down and are difficult to read. EasyKeys.com recommends:

  1. Use our Magnifying Card Light. Free if you spend $75 or more!
  2. If that doesn't work, dab whiteout over the lock code and then gently wipe off the excess with your finger. Your lock code should be more visible.

What information do you need to cut my key?
All we typically need is the alphanumeric lock code to cut your key, but if you know the manufacturer of the furniture or lock please provide it as some lock codes are valid for multiple manufacturers (example: K3 could be Kimball, Knoll or Storwal). If your lock code consists of numbers only we will need the manufacturer of the furniture or lock.

TOP

Do you supply keys for other locks outside of office furniture?
No, the only keys we cut are for office furniture (filing cabinets, desks, overhead bins, credenzas, bookcases, etc.). We DO NOT cut keys for high security safes, gun safes, vending machines, automobiles or interior/exterior doors.

What is a Lock Core Removal Key?

Why is my new key not working?
Easykeys.com can help you to get your new key working perfectly. If your lock code matches the code on your newly purchased key but doesn’t fit in to the lock, please contact us for assistance so we can make sure you get the correct key that you need. If your key fits in to the lock but sticks when turning, then that is a good sign! Since our keys are brand new and haven’t had the chance to be worn in with the lock, they sometimes can be a bit rigid and require the use of a lubricant such as WD40 or graphite and extra force. Graphite lubricant keeps locks lubricated and working smoothly. It also helps guard the lock against sticking and dirt build-up along with reducing wear and corrosion. Typically, if you put WD40 in the lock and slide the key in and out a few times and apply extra force then the key should get easier to use over time. Please let us know if this doesn’t help and we will make sure you get the correct key that you need.

How do I remove a broken key from my lock?
Easykeys.com can help you get a broken key out of your lock. If you believe there is a part of a broken key inside your lock, or your key seems to fit but has trouble going all the way in, you may need to purchase a broken key extractor. A broken key extractor is a tiny saw-like tool that is used to remove bits of broken key inside your lock. We recommend our magnifying card light to make the inside of the lock more visible. Simply take your broken key extractor and insert it into your lock where you see an opening between the broken key and the side of the lock. Gently turn the teeth of the broken key extractor towards the side of the key and begin to pull the key extractor out. You may need to repeat this process several times before the broken key will come out. Please let us know if you need any assistance while using this tool.

How do I know which key to order?
Every lock core is engraved with a unique alphanumeric or numeric code. Simply input the code stamped on the front of the lock in the electronic order form on the Web site and specify the quantity needed. EasyKeys.com has access to a database that allows it to cut keys based on the code provided. Each key is stamped with the corresponding lock code prior to shipping.

Who is the manufacturer of my furniture?
All we typically need is the alphanumeric lock code to cut your key, but some lock numbers are valid for multiple manufacturers or consist of numbers only.

Examples:
K3: could be Kimball, Knoll or Storwal
LL287: could be Chicago Lock or Herman Miller
001: could be Hurd, Invincible, Kimball Office or Metal Stand
.

In these cases we will need the manufacturer of the furniture or lock to cut you the correct key. You should see the manufacturer name on a sticker somewhere on your furniture. The most common locations are on an outside corner; underside of the top shelf, a drawer, or main part of a desk; the inside edge of an overhang; the inside of a drawer; on the locking mechanism; or on the face of the lock core where you insert the key, right next to your lock code. Try entering your lock code(s) into the search box at the top of the page to identify your manufacturer.

  3. Remove the core removal key from old lock core and insert the core removal key into new lock core.

What products do I buy if there is a punch out hole in my furniture?
If you have a punch out hole and a locking arm on the inside of your furniture, you would first need to identify your manufacturer. The most common locations for a manufacturer label are on an outside corner; underside of the top shelf, a drawer, or main part of a desk; the inside edge of an overhang; the inside of a drawer; on the locking mechanism; or on the face of the lock core where you insert the key, right next to your lock code. If your manufacturer is "HON" we recommend our FC-10 lock, which can be found on the HON page. This can be used in all HON pieces of furniture with a round punch out and includes an internal file locking bar inside your furniture. If your punch out hole is oval, simply purchase the FC26-AR adapter ring as well to convert the FC-10 lock to fit your oval punch out. If your furniture is by any other manufacturer, we recommend our file locking bar by ABUS. It is a cheaper alternative to a turn or push-in style locking mechanism and you can view more information about them on the ABUS page. Please contact customer service should you have any other questions.
